Katikiro Bans Daily Monitor From Covering Kingdom Events Over Publication Of Defamatory Statements.

Katikiro Charles Peter Mayiga

On Monday 20th April, daily monitor reporter James Kabengwa published a story alleging that the US Embassy gave the Kingdom US$250,000 for the Kasubi Royal Tombs reconstruction.

He further alleged that the Kingdom failed to account for the money and the US Embassy and the Kingdom are at loggerheads.

However, the US Embassy using their verified Twitter handle denied ever giving the Kingdom US$250,000 (Shs950 million) collaborating with the Kingdom that they only awarded US$5,000 (Shs14.9m at the time) which the Kingdom returned to the Americans after the implementation period had elapsed. The money was meant for an information board at the Kasubi Royal Tombs.

This didn't go down well with the officials of the Kingdom especially Katikiro Charles Peter Mayiga who later threatened to sue Daily Monitor.

He termed the story as fake and aimed at attacking the Kingdom. He tasked the editors of the newspaper to issue an apology.

Four days later, Daily monitor issued an apology to the Kingdom. Yesterday as the Kitikiro of Buganda addressed the nation; he revealed that Daily monitor should fire the reporter 'James' or else they never cover the Kingdom events.

Daily Monitor's Apology To the Kingdom

We shall deal with James accordingly; I no longer want to see him in Bulange. I told his bosses to accord us another reporter” Peter Mayiga revealed.
